I love Hen House. And am interested in a question. We are trying to rebuild the artisan cheese industry in Missouri and think we might have a corporate backer. Missouri is really good with milk, caves, pasture land and that kind of thing. I saw a program on PBS about it and it seems like the kind of European industry that would be transferrable across the state in all income levels, for example. I'm still checking why it was phased out, but I think it would be great. Would Hen House be interested in this Linda Heffern

...continued What also bothers me is the way your employee handled the situation. She could have said, I hate to ask you this but we are required to see receipts for flowers since they are not near the registers. Still this would make your customers seem like potential thieves. Maybe your employe just does not like Hispanics, Italians or Middle Eastern people. Maybe she did not like my Johnny Cash shirt because it had Nashville, Tennessee on it and she does not like the South. Maybe she actually thought I looked like a thief. I just don't know. But, it bothered me enough so that when I arrived home with the roses, I asked my wife if I looked like a thief. Maybe it is just store policy to ask if items are paid for. If that is the case, then ask everyone and don't single people out. Maybe you should put stickers on flowers as they go through checkout so employees could see at a glance that the flowers have been paid for and will not have to humiliate customers who have just stopped to ask a question or buy something at the customer service desk. I truly hope I was not being profiled. I do like Hen House, I really do. I love your deli department. The customer service there has always been excellent. The meats and cheeses are wonderful. I love your salad section and I am part of your salad program. Your bakery department is first rate. Also, there is one very nice employee who stocks your dairy and grocery sections that I often see at night. He always asks how I am doing and will always go out of his way to help me find something. He even helped me with advice on cooking my turkey a couple of Thanksgivings ago. I would like to tell him he is doing a super job and it is always a pleasure to see him. I wish I could tell you his name. When I was speaking with the manger, he baffled me today. He asked me several times what I wanted? Did he want me to give him a dollar figure for a gift certificate, so I would feel less humiliated? Did he want me to tell him I should get my roses for free so I would feel less humiliated? Did he want me to demand that the employee be fired so I would feel less humiliated? The damage is already done. I was humiliated and embarrassed. I was treated like a dishonest person. What I do want is a face-to-face apology from the employee, which should have been given to me this morning without me asking for one. That would have been the professional and right thing to do. I do like Hen House, but in the future I will go out of my way to avoid shopping at your stores. There are many options to Hen House. I will now take my business to Price Chopper, Sprouts and even drive a bit further to Hy-Vee. I shame your employee for questioning my honesty. A simple apology will go a long way! Dear Hen House Corporate Management, I am writing you today because of a very bad experience I had in one of your stores today. If I could give zero stars I would. The store is located at 6900 W 135th St, Overland Park,KS. Store #33. First let me tell you a bit about myself. My family and I have been coming to this particular Hen House for about 14 years, since we relocated from north Overland Park. I split my shopping between Hen House, Price Chopper and more recently Sprouts, which opened up across the street about two years ago. I am fifty-eight and have gray hair. I am part Hispanic. People have also thought I could be Italian, Middle Eastern and in high school someone actually thought I could be part Chinese. This morning I purchased some yellow roses that my wife sent me to buy for my daughter. I decided to buy the roses from Hen House because the floral department always has good service and the florists are very helpful. The florists were not in today so I picked the flowers out myself. My wife was going to visit my daughter for Mom's day at KU and want to take her some nice flowers. They were very nice looking roses. After I purchased the roses I stopped by the customer service desk to by lotto tickets as I often do after buying groceries. While holding my paid for and nice looking yellow roses, the only thing I had on my mind was do I buy three power ball tickets with power play which would be $9 or do I splurge and buy four power ball tickets with power play which would be $12. I splurged, I bought four tickets and to my surprise I received two free tickets because I had spent $10. But before I could enjoy this little surprise, I was completely humiliated, embarrassed and angered by the employee working the customer service desk, from whom I had just bought the lotto tickets. I was completely embarrassed, humiliated and angered because your employee did not believe that I paid for my roses and insisted that I produce a receipt. I had just purchased the roses one minute before about twenty feet away. I explained to her that I had just purchased them. I told her that I was a loyal customer and have been coming to this store for years. In front of other customers I tried to convince her. I even tried to joke with her that maybe she did not like the Johnny Cash shirt I was wearing and that was the reason she did not believe me. I also jokingly said that I would bet her that I paid for them. I gave her several chances to believe me. She still would not believe me, questioned my honesty and insisted on seeing my receipt. That is when I insisted on seeing a manager. She said she was the manager on duty. Only when I pressed her did she call someone who she said was the manager. While I was explaining my situation to the manager, to my surprise another manager arrived. I did not have time to explain again and I asked the first manager to give me the names and numbers of the district managers, I showed him my receipt and left the store. What angers me is that your employee did not believe that I paid for the flowers. I realize that she might not have actually seen me buy the flowers, but does she ask everyone who walks out the door if they have paid for their items. I know that your floral department is right next to the entry door and so is your bakery department. Someone could actually grab something and dash right back out the door. I wonder why stores are set up to make taking stuff easy. The question I have and your employee should have asked herself is, if he was going to steal flowers, why would he walk over to the customer service desk and buy lotto tickets when he could have just dashed out the door and probably would have not been seen. What also bothers me is the way your employee handled the situation. Continued on next review...
