Description

Hayward Facility of The Arc of Alameda County housing the First Step Children's Center, AVP & VDC Programs and the Vocational Development Center. Our Vocational Development Center program is designed around providing vocational training and real jobs -- with real paychecks. The consumer can gain: On-the-job training; Marketable skills; Work experience; The opportunity to demonstrate efficiency, dependability and productivity - rated by employers as the most important characteristics of potential employees. Our four program sites (San Leandro, Hayward, Livermore, Union City) provide the perfect environment for mastering assembly and warehouse skills demanded by the job market, and putting those skills to work.
It all starts with the Arc of Alameda County's Customer Service Department. They compete with local and national companies for production contracts. These contracts require individuals to be trained in a variety of skills.
The consumer works closely with a production supervisor.

Company description
First Step Children's Center has been providing integrated childcare for over 20 years in the East Bay. We have caring and qualified staff that is trained to provide Individualized Activity Based Curriculum for each child. Using an interactive approach, the plan addresses language, cognitive motor skills, gross motor skills, social-emotional needs and self-help skills. Our goal is to increase the quality of life and to enable each child to learn and develop to his or her maximum potential. By totally integrating children with special needs and non-disabled children, our emphasis is to promote the development of a non-biased value system. Children are encouraged to participate in crafts, cooking projects, story time and basic living skills such as feeding, toileting and appropriate peer interaction.
Child initiated activities are also encouraged to provide the opportunity for your child to make choices, decisions and build on leadership skills. First Step Children's Center feels it is important to provide quality daycare services that work within the families principles. In providing a comprehensive program for your child, not only are the development needs of the child considered, but also the cultural, linguitics, and family dynamics. We care what parents want for their children, therefore we feel working as a partnership is beneficial. Alternative Ventures (AVP) and Alternative Ventures for Hearing Impaired and Deaf (AVP-ASL at Walpert) Programs are for individuals over the age of 18, are Regional Center of the East Bay clients with a case manager, who wish to partake in programming that is both on site and in the community.
Participants should be motivated for volunteer, social, recreational, life, and community building skills sets. Stamina/movement development and daily exercises are strongly encouraged. Occasional paid work may be provided. Walpert (Hayward) has a second AV program for individuals who are hard of hearing or are deaf.
